Preparing to Savor Flavours: How to Reset Your Taste Buds
As I mentioned in my profile page,I’ve always been prone to nasal congestion. Even when I’m about to enjoy a delicious dessert, a stuffy nose can halve the flavor. From this struggle, I developed my own taste bud reset method: “Thoroughly clear your nose before eating dessert.” Here are three spicy foods I often eat as a “warm-up” for this routine.
Resetting Nasal Passages with Spicy Food
My reset method is very simple:
* Eat something spicy.
* Unreservedly blow your nose as much as needed.
* Savor your dessert with clear nasal passages.
The spiciness stimulates and clears my nose, and then the aroma and sweetness of the next dessert I eat suddenly feel much more vivid. Here are three spicy foods I often use:
Instant Curry (Spicy)
First, a classic. I always keep commercially available spicy instant curry on hand as a “nasal passage adjustment meal.” It’s easy to eat, the spiciness is consistent, and it produces just the right amount of nasal discharge (laughs). The moment it’s heated, the aroma of spices fills my nose, and after a few bites, I’m immediately in warm-up mode.
Western Dishes with Tabasco
Next, I recommend Western dishes generously topped with Tabasco. You don’t need to cook a special meal from scratch; just add it to gratin, pizza, or pasta. The straightforward spiciness of Tabasco instantly stimulates the back of your nose. Even with my stuffy nose, it’s a powerful item that clears my nasal passages by the time I finish eating. If you keep Tabasco in your bag, you can easily enjoy its spiciness anytime.
Chinese Dishes with Chili Oil
Speaking of Tabasco with Western dishes, we can’t forget chili oil with Chinese cuisine. Especially when hot noodle dishes are made spicy, I feel like the heat and spiciness double the nasal discharge. When I go that far, it feels like all the mucus leaves my nose, and I feel truly refreshed. The deliciousness of the flavourful dessert I eat afterward is irresistible.
Once Your Nose is Clear, It’s Time for Dessert!
After thoroughly blowing your nose and ensuring clear passages, it’s finally showtime. The dessert you eat now will taste 30% more delicious than usual, with flavours feeling incredibly vivid. For example…
* Ice cream with prominent vanilla bean aroma
* Apple pie with caramel sauce
* Sweets with chestnuts
I’m surprising every day how much the change in flavour due to aroma differs just by having a clear nose.
This method is merely a “taste bud preparation routine” that suits my constitution, but for those who say, “I can’t taste well because of a stuffy nose…” it might be worth a try. Clear your nose with spiciness → Enjoy the flavors with dessert. If you like, please try this experience too.
